Lines Samples

Here are some sample PDF page files and how they were created. Note that printer settings like “scale to fit” or “fit to page” may mess up a printed result (spacings and widths will be made either wider or narrower).

Music Paper

For music paper (a.k.a., staff paper or music staff paper) you can try the lines PDF generator. For “letter” sized paper I used:

  • Line spacings 12,12,12,12,53
  • Margins 72,48,60,48

For this paper I used all point based measurements. See letter staff paper.

For “A4” sized paper:

  • Line spacings 12,12,12,12,48
  • Margins 64,48,56,48
  • Paper size A4

Dot Paper

For “dot” paper you can try the pattern PDF generator.

  • Pattern dot
  • Pattern offsets 5mm,6.4mm
  • Pattern size 0.5mm

The offsets “5mm,6.4mm” create dots that have a 52° angle (can you say Spencerian?). I changed the color to a darker green (red: 16, green: 48, blue: 16 in the color picker) also. See Spencerian dots.

If you want a specific angle for the dots to help you align your calligraphy take the tangent of the angle you want (ask Google to do it). For instance, the tangent of 55°s is 1.423. So, if you want the diagonals of the dots to be at 55°s you set the Pattern offsets to N and 1.423 x N (like 5mm, 7.115mm). 55° is a good angle for Copperplate.

Seyes Paper

For a paper similar to Seyes paper you can use the graph PDF generator.

This produces graph paper with heavy dark green lines every inch, and lighter and narrower lines on the half, quarter, and eighth inch divisions. See green lines every eighth inch.
